    Preston Castle Tour Directions
    May 19th.
The Capitol A’s will host the first leg of the 2017 NCRG hub tour on Wednesday May 19th. Cars participating in the tour will line up on both sides of the approach to the 6 Motel in Lodi starting at 9:30. Tour groups of ten to fifteen cars will start departing at 9:45 for Preston Castle in Ione. The tour will cover approximately 40 miles from Lodi to Ione in about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Cars will turn right onto Cherokee Lane when departing the hotel approach and proceed north to the 5th stop light which is Victor Road or Hwy12. Turning right onto Victor Road the tour proceeds east for 5 miles running into Hwy 88. Turn left on Hwy 88 and proceed east to the town of Lockeford. Turn left at the Lockford stop light onto Elliott Road (county road J5) and head north. The tour stays on Elliott road for seven miles reaching Borden Road. Turn left onto Borden Road and make an immediate right on to Clay Station Road heading north. Clay Station Road bends right in two miles and then bends left in .6 miles finally ending up at Twin Cities Road (Hwy.104). Turn right onto Twin Cities Road and bear left passing the Rancho Seco Towers on the right. Stay on Hwy104 all the way to Preston, about 17.2 miles. Turn left on Waterton Road and left up the Preston Castle approach road with staff housing units on the right. Capitol A members will be directing parking once you reach the top of the hill.
Check in at the Castle building and proceed on your self guided tour with assistance from Castle staff at various points within the Castle. Once the Castle tour is complete you can enjoy lunch on the back side of the Castle in the yard area.
The tour back to Lodi is on your own schedule. We suggest you retrace the route taken to the Castle to avoid highway traffic. However if you wish a quicker route upon exiting the Castle grounds turn left off Waterman onto Preston road (Hwy104) and proceed into Ione. At the first stop sign turn left and follow the sign for Hwy 104. This will lead you out of Ione to Hwy.88. Turn right onto Hwy 88 and proceed west passing through Clements and Lockeford. Turn right at the light for Kettlemen Drive and after about 6 miles you will be in Lodi. After crossing under Hwy 99 the next stop light is Cherokee Lane. Turn right and the 6 Motel will be on your right.
Those wishing to visit Eagles Nest turn right after leaving Preston and proceed north on Preston Road (Hwy104) to Michigan Bar Road about 3 miles. Turn right onto Michigan Bar Road and proceed north to Carbondale Road (the next right turn). Turn right on Carbondale Road and after about 2 miles it bends to the right. Do not turn right here go straight on what is now Lambert road. The turn off for Eagles’ Nest is about ¾ of a mile on the left.
When departing Eagles Nest retrace your route turning left onto Michigan Bar road and right on Hwy104 to retrace the morning tour or left to go into Ione and onto Hwy 88 as above.
